In one of the new promising developments from Geneva , The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund), the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and Unitaid are partnering to accelerate the manufacturing of health products in Africa, with HIV rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) as the first product which will imrove access to healthcare.

New mobile phone app helps healthcare workers provide comprehensive abortion care.

Efficient access to information by healthcare workers is vital in providingequitable access to healthcare especially for Comprehensive abortion care. A “digital decision support tool” or app has been launched, available on Apple and Google Play, to support caregivers in the process of decision-making, and using the WHO Abortion care guideline, to provide comprehensive abortion care.

This app tailors patient-specific assessments and recommendations based on individual patient characteristics. Healthcare providers can use it to guide them through assessing abortion-seekers, offering checklists and context for case management. The app helps reduce errors in abortion provision, schedules personalized post-abortion follow-ups, and referrals. While not for storing client data or training, it enhances healthcare providers’ capacity by combining clinical guidelines with patient information. It serves as a digital job aid on mobile devices, providing crucial support for abortion and post-abortion care, and includes WHO guidelines and relevant resources.
